Wendy Maisey Meets Liz Truss

Wendy Maisey was delighted to be invited to participate in a closed door round table meeting with Liz Truss, Secretary of State for The Department of International Trade on Friday 2nd August 2019.

The meeting was set in conjunction with the announcement the Government made on Friday that there would be 10 Free Ports selected in the UK to boost trade post Brexit.

Wendy, who co-owns and runs an I.T. business in Warrington town centre said :

I’ve been a Northern Powerhouse Export Champion since being selected by the D.I.T in2013. It is in recognition for the expertise I have in International Trade and the role involves mentoring and encouraging North West businesses to export their products and services. The Secretary of State, who has been in the role for just over a week was keen to hear from other Export Champions as to what help is needed from The Government to continue to push UK companies to export more.

The meeting which follows on from a visit of another Senior Minister to our offices in Warrington to discuss and comment on The Governments Export Strategy Document.

The aim is to raise the UK’s exports to 35% of GDP, we currently sit at around 30%. The Minister was surprised that such a high-tech company which exports over 92% of its products and services is situated in the Centre of Warrington.

I love being an Ambassador for our town, and visits like this are always great publicity and an opportunity to showcase Warrington.

Teesside has been announced as the first of the 10 Freeports and we’re watching very closely to see where the remaining 9 will be.
